Ongoing Management

If grown in full sun, this plant will not require staking or pruning. In part shade, this plant has a tendency to flop, therefore it will need to be pruned or staked.

Weed Control & Mulching

Insect & Disease Control

Fertilization

After flowering, spread at least 3" of organic mulch around plants.

Watering

Pruning / Cutting Back

Two options:

  1. Dead-heading is not necessary. Seed pods will form, so trimming the plant back will mean losing attractive seed pods.
  2. Cut back 30%-50% after flowering to maintain shape, prevent the plant from flopping over, and promote a bushy growth.

Fall: Cut back and cover well.

Contact with the milky sap may cause skin irritation.
