Ongoing Management
Watering
Do not over water as this can lead to root rot.
Pruning / Cutting Back
Regular deadheading of spent flowers can promote continuous blooming throughout the season.
Integrated Pest & Pollinator Mgmt Notes
Zinnias can be susceptible to fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and bacterial leaf spot, bacterial wilt, as well as pests from cutworms, mealybugs, and spider mites. Regular inspection and treatment with appropriate fungicides and insecticides can help prevent and control these problems.
Site Selection & Preparation
Zinnias prefer full sun, but they can tolerate some light shade. Full sun leads to more blooms. The plant needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Propagation
Collect seeds for growing the next season. Plant seeds 1/4" deep after the last frost.
Other
These plants are a bit top heavy and can tip over in high winds, breaking off at ground level. Staking them is a good idea.
Need to look at some form of horizontal trellis support.
